According to South Korean media reports, the Seoul Western District Court in South Korea approved a detention order for the arrested President Yoon Seok-yue in the early morning of the 19th. Yoon Seok-yue became the first president in South Korea’s constitutional history to be detained and investigated as a sitting president.
The Seoul Western District Court began a review of the necessity of a detention order for Yin Xiyue on the afternoon of the 18th, and approved the detention order for Yin Xiyue in the early morning of the 19th on the grounds that “the suspect may destroy evidence.” South Korea’s “Joint Investigation Headquarters” stated that it will investigate the Yin Xiyue case in accordance with the law and relevant procedures.
Yin Xiyue is currently waiting in the suspect lounge of the Seoul Detention Center and will officially enter the detention center after completing relevant procedures. At the same time, more than a hundred supporters of Yoon Seok-yue broke into the Seoul Western District Court after it approved the detention order for Yoon Seok-yue, and some people went inside to cause damage. Some people also grabbed the shields of police officers on duty and clashed with them. The police immediately deployed a large number of police personnel and began evacuation operations.
According to South Korean law, after the detention order application is approved, the detention period can be up to 20 days. According to Korean media analysis, since the South Korean Senior Public Officials Criminal Investigation Office (Public Investigation Office) does not have the power to prosecute, the case is expected to be transferred to the prosecutor’s office in 10 days, and the prosecutor’s office will continue to investigate Yin Xiyue and file a lawsuit after the investigation is completed.
On the 17th, the Public Relations Office applied to the Seoul Western District Court for a detention order against Yoon Seok-yue on suspicion of “initiating civil unrest and abusing power.” Yin Xiyue appeared in court in the Western Seoul District Court on the afternoon of the 18th to undergo a review of the necessity of a detention order.
