A think tank report on China’s “eight major measures” to support quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), emphasizes consolidating the pragmatic cooperation, promoting growth based on innovation, strengthening risk management and improving cooperation mechanisms.
The report, titled “‘Eight Major Steps’ heralding a promising new decade for Belt and Road cooperation,” was released Tuesday by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency, during the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation of Think Tanks and the Second International Silk Road Communication Forum (Xi’an).
Regarding the promotion of innovation-led growth, the report notes that the eight major measures aim to promote the development of new productivity by focusing on green and digital growth while further extending cooperation in emerging areas.
On risk mitigation, the report said successful implementation of the eight major measures will require deepening solidarity and cooperation to jointly address risks and build stronger international consensus among ICR partner countries.
It calls on BRI partner countries to remain vigilant in the face of systematic negative propaganda promoted by some countries, including false narratives that characterize the BRI as a “debt trap”, “neocolonialism” or a form of “systemic export”, which aims to compromise and blacken the image of the initiative.
China announced the eight major measures to promote quality development under the BRI at the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in October 2023.
