Mecha break Try to win on the international market thanks to its dynamic gameplay and neat graphics.
In February, the Mecha Break video game, developed and published by the Chinese studio Amazing Seasun Games (hereinafter “Seasun”), unveiled its first open beta called “Global Storm”, and received wide attention both at national and international level. It is a science fiction game (SF) in which players pilot imposing mechas (humanoid robots) to survive in a post-apocalyptic universe.
Founded in 1995, Seasun is one of the first game studios in China. He distinguished himself in various fields, ranging from martial arts to SF via ACGN (Animes, Mangas, Video Games, Light Novels). True to its “China -based, turned to China” strategy, the studio aims to embody the Chinese imagination through various themes, while enriching the experience of players around the world. Among his flagship works, JX3 Ultimate highlights the richness of traditional Chinese culture, while Mecha Break testifies to the technological advances of the country. Whether it is artistic direction, gameplay or technical prowess, each element attests to its determination to make Chinese SF radiate around the world.

A decade of efforts
The universe of the mechas, born in the literature and the illustration of SF, has gradually imposed itself in various fields such as animation, cinema and games. Guo Weiwei, producer of Mecha Break, has been a great enthusiast of Mechas since his childhood. Beyond his interest in animation and games, he also gave himself up to the artisanal making of Mechas models. This passion, like a seed sown in his mind, sprouted when he became producer of video games.
Previously, most of the games of which Mr. Guo was responsible for celebrating the rich history and culture of China, as well as to transmit the vision of the world specific to the Chinese nation. However, his ambition also extended to explore stories turned to the future and to portray a futuristic universe through Mechas video games, while presenting Chinese culture from a new angle. By a happy circumstances competition, Mr. Guo’s team collaborated with a British studio specializing in naval battle games. This alliance has enabled his team to acquire significant expertise. With an original idea and an accumulated experience, the team made several attempts to create.
Guo Weiwei, producer of the game
“We want to make a video game that will be a date for Mechas fans, a work capable of winning on the international scene,” says Guo, even specifying his ambition to captivate an audience beyond traditional players.
After years of fierce efforts, the first trailer for the game was published in May 2022, a prelude to a closed beta. Against all expectations, the video caused a massive craze, reaching a million views in just three days, which enormously encouraged the team. After a cycle of almost ten years of improvement, this work was finally able to meet its hopeful global audience.
Resilience and innovation
Despite many difficulties encountered during this decade, the team was able to refine its technical skills and mature its creative concepts. Mostly made up of mechas enthusiasts with rigorous requirements, the team has continued to outdo itself to achieve excellence.
The narrative universe of the game is based on a world in the post-apocalyptic era, but deviates from traditional gender stories by exalting collective resilience to global crises. Far from glorifying personal heroism, the game highlights the necessary human solidarity to overcome disasters.
The introduction of the “Corite”, a mineral of silicon carbide, to the game of the game adds a deep dimension to the experience. With its unique properties, it embodies a fundamental paradox: an incomparable source of energy but also of inevitable threats, placing humanity in front of an existential dilemma. This ingenious mechanism offers a relevant reflection on contemporary energy issues, inviting the player to question the future of our civilization.
Example of virtual geometry
In a quest for excellence, the team adopted hard surface modeling, allowing the precise creation of complex mechanisms, a significant optimization of production times and a futuristic and realistic visual rendering. In addition to this crucial technology, the team used virtual geometry and virtual texture to improve rendering, reducing file size without compromising graphic quality.
In order to improve the player experience, three areas of improvement have been prioritized: the feeling of speed for a realistic restitution of propellants, the physical impact for more interactions with the environment and freedom of movement for more fluid navigation in the world. To achieve these objectives, the team has invested a lot in R&D and obtained 60 technical patents and 54 others are being examined.

Develop internationally
In recent years, the Chinese game industry has undertaken a methodical conquest of international markets, combining recognition and success. According to the 2024 report on the video game industry in China, national productions generated more than $ 18 billion in revenues abroad last year, recording growth of 13.39 % over one year.
Pioneer of this expansion, Seasun turned to foreign markets in 2003. With Mecha Break, the studio takes advantage of the universality of the mecha theme and a futuristic vision to arouse a global craze. The game distinguished itself at the Game Awards 2023, before having exceptional performance during its open beta. The game attracted a total of 3.5 million players to Steam, with a record of more than a million daily connections. It was 5th on the global list of platform wishes. The players fully appreciated the personalization system and the neat design of the mechas.
Connection record for open beta
Until now, the universe of Mechas Games was the exclusive prerogative of Western and Japanese developers. The enthusiastic reception reserved for Mecha Break by players from around the world comes to shake up this balance, opening up new perspectives. The famous IGN media (Imagine Games Network) praised “the ultra-dynamic and immersive combat experience that meets all expectations”. In addition, the game attracted 16 professional teams from China, Japan and North America to organize a competition, obtaining 28 million views.

Currently, the developers are optimizing the performance of the game by integrating the feedback from the players collected during beta tests. Mecha Break, the first Chinese multiplayer combat game on the theme of the mecha, could well become according to Mr. Guo “the cornerstone allowing Chinese SF games to win on the world scene”.
