China has carried out new advances in the provision of inclusive and high quality public education services in recent years, while the development of its fundamental education has reached the average of high income countries, Huai Jinpeng, Chinese Education Minister on Tuesday.
According to Huai, the country has gradually expanded access to compulsory high quality education. A total of 2,895 regions in the districts across the country have reached balanced development in this area.
Since 2012, the gross rate of registration for preschool schools has increased by 27.5 percentage points, going from 64.5% to 92%, he said.
Higher education has also become accessible to everyone in China, added Huai, stressing that his gross schooling rate has more than doubled since 2012, going from 30% to 60.8% today.
Huai also said that China had continued its special recruitment program for candidates from rural areas and regions out of poverty in first -rate higher education establishments, which have benefited more than 1.23 million students to date.
The subsidies now cover students at all school levels and in all types of establishments whose families encounter economic difficulties, he said.
According to Wang Jiayi, Vice-Minister of Education, 630 million students benefited from subsidies between 2021 and 2024. More than 1,200 billion yuan (around 169 billion dollars) of subsidies were distributed, including 848.2 billion yuan, or 70% of the total, funded by public funds.
