Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet agreed on Thursday to build a community of China-Cambodge destiny to the new era, and proclaimed 2025 “year of China-Cambodge tourism”.
XI said that the unwavering friendship that links China in Cambodia based on an ancient history, solid political foundations and a powerful internal driving force. Despite developments in the international situation, the two countries have always been at the forefront of building a community of destiny for humanity, he said.
Currently, unprecedented changes for a century have followed one another at an accelerated pace, noted Mr. XI, adding that approving the construction of the community of destiny China-Cambodge was in accordance with the fundamental interests of the two peoples.
China will continue to support Cambodia in its search for a development route adapted to its national conditions. It will also support the Cambodian government in its governance efforts in the country, and will help it play a more important role in international and regional affairs, he added.
Mr. XI called on the two parties to consider the construction of a community of destiny China-Cambodge to the new era as a new starting point, then to continue on their momentum by implementing a new action plan for the construction of this community, by strengthening unity and cooperation, and by accelerating the implementation of the Initiative for World Development, the Initiative for World Safety and the Initiative for World Civilization.
He also urged the two parties to deepen their mutual political confidence, to expand and improve their mutually beneficial cooperation, to consolidate their mutual security guarantees, to intensify their human and cultural exchanges and to strengthen their high -level strategic coordination in order to provide greater benefits to the two peoples.
The Chinese president called for optimizing the role of the intergovernmental coordination committee China-Cambodge, to guarantee the success of strategic dialogues between foreign ministers and the defense of the two countries, to strengthen exchanges via political parties and legislative bodies, to identify the risks and challenges and to preserve the common interests of the two parties.
The Chinese part is ready to share its opportunities and to continue a common development with Cambodia, said Xi Jinping.
He called on the two parties to vigorously promote quality cooperation as part of the Belt and Road initiative, and continually enrich the cooperation framework for “Diamond Hexagon” in order to instill new impetus with their respective modernization efforts.
China encourages Chinese companies to invest in Cambodia, he said, adding that it would open its mega-market in Cambodia and import more quality Cambodian agricultural products.
The peoples of the two countries must strengthen mutual understanding and friendly feelings and promote exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Cambodian civilizations, he said.
China will continue to offer government scholarships to Cambodian nationals, to support the establishment of a mechanism for dialogue and exchanges between young people from the two countries, and to encourage local exchanges and exchanges between media and reflection groups in order to ever bring the populations of the two countries, he said.
He called on the two countries to take stronger and more effective measures to fight against online gambling and telecommunications fraud, to maintain social stability and to guarantee the smooth running of trade between the countries of the region.
Xi said that China and Cambodia were important forces within the Global South, and were to join common values of peace, unity and cooperation.
He called on the two parties to oppose unilateral intimidation, to practice a real multilateralism, to firmly oppose the confrontation between blocks, to strengthen coordination and cooperation within the framework of ASEAN and Lancang-Mékong cooperation, and to jointly preserve regional peace and development to contribute to the construction of a community of destiny for humanity.
For his part, Hun Manet said that the two countries respected themselves and have been treated in equal equals for a long time, and praised China as the most reliable and trustworthy friend in Cambodia.
He said that Xi Jinping’s visit was of capital importance, because it will strengthen mutual political confidence between the two countries and effectively promote the construction of a Cambodge-China community to the new era.
Greeting the achievements of China in terms of economic and social development, Hun Manet said he was firmly convinced that under the farm of Mr. XI, she would reach the objective of the second centenary as expected. He also thanked China for its unwavering support for the economic development of Cambodia and the safeguarding of its independence.
The Prime Minister said that Cambodia firmly adhered to the policy of a single China, and supported it in the safeguarding of its sovereignty and its territorial integrity. Stressing that China was the first trading partner and the main source of investment in Cambodia, he indicated that his country was ready to strengthen its cooperation with it in fields such as economics, trade, investment, industrial and supply chains, agriculture and infrastructure, to jointly fight against online gaming and telecommunications fraud, to strengthen human exchanges in fields such as And culture, and to guarantee the success of the year of Cambodia-China tourism.
He said that Cambodia highly appreciated the active role played by China in international and regional affairs. He supports Mr. Xi’s aspirations to build a community of destiny for humanity, as well as the three major global initiatives and cooperation as part of the belt and the road initiative proposed by the Chinese president.
Faced with the global turbulence caused by unilateralism and the shocks suffered by the multilateral trade system, China has played a leading role by providing precious stability in the world, said Hun Manet, adding that Cambodia was willing to strengthen its coordination and cooperation with China in order to preserve their common interests.
After their meeting, the leaders of the two countries attended the exchange of more than 30 bilateral cooperation documents covering areas such as cooperation in production and supply chains, artificial intelligence, development aid, customs inspections, quarantines, health and the media.
