The sirens sounded, and a bell struck northeast China on Thursday to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the September 18 incident, which marked the start of the China war of resistance against Japanese aggression.
Hundreds of people, including veterans and their loved ones, gathered on the place of the Historical Museum 9.18 in Shenyang, capital of the province of Liaoning, to honor those who fought in the war of resistance of the Chinese people against Japanese aggression.
At 9:18 am, 14 representatives of various sectors sounded a huge bell 14 times, symbolizing the 14 years of fierce fight against Japanese invaders.
Throughout the city, anti-aircraft sirens and vehicle horns sounded for three minutes, while pedestrians stopped to pay a silent tribute.
Since 1995, Shenyang has been sounding anti-aircraft sirens each year to commemorate the September 18 incident.
On September 18, 1931, Japanese troops blew up a railway section under their control near Shenyang and accused Chinese sabotage troops as a pretext for their attack in the night aimed at the barracks near Shenyang, thus triggering the premeditated invasion of China.
