China has successfully ensured that all its county-level regions are covered by quality compulsory education in a balanced manner, Education Minister Huai Jinpeng said Thursday.
The result means that people’s basic need for “access to schools” has been met, Huai said at a news conference.
China has completed building the world’s largest quality education system, he noted. Compulsory education includes primary and secondary schools.
As for preschool education, the gross enrollment rate reached 91.1 percent by the end of last year, an increase of 26.6 percentage points compared to 2012, the minister said.
