Chinese cereal production is on a good momentum this year, with almost 60% of the start of the start of the season already harvested and forecasts indicating an exceptional harvest, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said on Thursday.
The area devoted to autumn cereals is expected to increase slightly this year, the crops being generally in good condition, said the ministry, which attributes the good conditions for the cultivation of autumn cereals to the adoption of more advanced agricultural practices and on favorable weather conditions.
Fall cereals represent around 75% of the annual cereal production of China, making it a major factor to reach this year’s production objective, which is set at around 700 million tonnes, the ministry added.
China has produced an exceptional summer cereal harvest this year, despite the serious droughts that have occurred in certain regions. National production reached around 149.74 million tonnes, the second highest yield ever recorded after that of last year, which is a solid basis for stable annual cereal production.
