Since the pilot launch of the “quarantine for domestic animals taken abroad” on December 31, 2024, travelers can now take their pets abroad with them by simply carrying out an online declaration and a clinical examination .
In the hall of Tongzhou customs statements, under the customs jurisdiction of Beijing, an agent checks the information declared by a woman, whose family name is Zhao, for his dog, before reading the electronic chip and a clinical examination. In less than ten minutes, Ms. Zhao’s poodle is ready to accompany him in the United States.
“Thanks to this service, I no longer need to go through an agency, which considerably reduces costs to travel with my dog,” she explains.
The “quarantine for domestic animals taken abroad”, launched on December 31, 2024 on the online platform is currently in testing in 13 Chinese cities, including Beijing, Taiyuan and Shenyang.
This module offers six forms and ten models of certificates adapted to the health requirements of different countries and regions. Travelers have only to select the corresponding options and fill out the necessary information. They can also follow the state of their declaration in real time.
Once the quarantine process is completed, customs deliver a health certificate for animals, which travelers can recover on site or receive by mail.
Customs pilots across the country have already offered this simplified service for more than 80 lots of animals.
