Lesotho and China have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level and making it a model of friendly exchanges and common development between countries with different national conditions and systems, according to a joint press release issued on Sunday.
The statement was issued following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s meeting with Lesotho Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Lejone Mpotjoane in the Lesotho capital Maseru. Wang, also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the southern African country on Saturday and Sunday, where he met with his counterpart, Mpotjoane.
The ministers praised the achievements in developing bilateral relations, the document noted, adding that the two sides firmly supported each other on issues relating to each other’s core interests and major concerns.
Lesotho supports the four major global initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and welcomes them for bringing stability and certainty to a troubled world, the statement continued.
Lesotho reiterates its firm commitment to the One China principle and recognizes that there is only one China in the world, emphasizing that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing all of China. China applauds Lesotho’s further progress in its national reform process and supports Lesotho in defending its national sovereignty, security and development interests, according to the statement.
Both sides stressed that the promotion of human rights is a common cause of all humanity, and exchanges and cooperation on human rights should be carried out on the basis of mutual respect and equality. Both parties oppose the politicization of human rights issues, their use as a weapon and the application of a policy of “double standards” in this area. In addition, they oppose interference in the internal affairs of the two countries under the pretext of defending human rights.
The ministers highlighted the major results of the ten partnership actions that China and Africa have taken together to advance modernization. They shared the conviction that changes not seen in a century were accelerating and that the countries of the South were playing an increasingly important role in international affairs.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration to jointly oppose unilateral sanctions, protectionism and economic hegemonism, promote an egalitarian and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization that benefits all, establish a more just and equitable global governance system, and build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world characterized by lasting peace, universal security and shared prosperity, the statement said.
