The Chinese authorities have published a circular aimed at promoting the dissemination and application of the law on the protection of cultural relics, announced on Saturday the national administration of cultural heritage.
A revised version of the law, which entered into force on Saturday, was adopted during a session of the permanent committee of the National People’s Assembly on November 8, 2024, as part of the country’s efforts to strengthen the protection of its abundant cultural heritage.
The circular stipulates that local governments must organize educational and promotional activities linked to the law on the protection of cultural relics in order to understand in an exhaustive, specifies and completes the objectives and main content of the law revisions.
Local authorities are also invited to carry out awareness campaigns of the law and promote them in businesses, schools, communities and rural areas.
Efforts must be made to encourage all sectors of society to fulfill their obligation to protect cultural relics in accordance with the law, according to the document.
China is increasingly emphasizing the protection of its cultural relics. The country is currently carrying out a national census of cultural vestiges, which should continue until 2026.
