Domestic travel in China will reach record levels in 2025 and during the Spring Festival holiday in 2026, Sun Yeli, Minister of Culture and Tourism, said on Saturday.
During the nine-day Spring Festival holiday from February 15 to 23, the country recorded 596 million domestic trips, with tourism spending exceeding 800 billion yuan (about 115.93 billion U.S. dollars), hitting new records, Sun said at a press conference held on the sidelines of the annual session of the national legislature in Beijing.
During 2025, domestic trips by Chinese residents exceeded 6.5 billion, up more than 16 percent year-on-year, and tourism spending reached 6.3 trillion yuan, up 9.5 percent, setting new records in both volume and spending, Sun added.
According to him, the culture and tourism sectors will develop and implement the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for cultural and tourism development, which will be aligned with the country’s overall development strategies.
This will make it possible to better exploit the role of these sectors in the intellectual and emotional enrichment of the population while promoting economic and social development, said the minister.
