China, the host country of the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, will hold the first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (RHF) and related sessions in Guangzhou from February 1 to 10, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.
The spokesperson told a daily press briefing that this marked the first official event of APEC’s “Year of China.”
According to Guo, the RHF serves as the main channel for preparing results for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, and it is held four or five times a year.
The upcoming RHF in south China’s Guangzhou will focus on the theme “Building the Asia-Pacific Community towards Common Prosperity”, as well as the three priorities of openness, innovation and cooperation, to fully launch cooperation in various sectors and mechanisms and initiate in-depth discussions on specific collaborations to accumulate results for the November meeting, he noted.
More than 50 events will be held on the sidelines of the RHF, with around 1,000 delegates expected, Guo noted, adding that journalists are welcome to follow and report on the events.
