On November 29, to mark the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin hosted the inaugural ceremony of the CHINA TODAY Macao Salon, accompanied by a literary recital titled ” Hengqin and Macau, in full bloom.” This event brought together more than a hundred personalities, including official representatives, entrepreneurs and young talents from the Chinese mainland, the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and abroad.
Guests of honor included Liu Dawei, vice chairman of the China International Communication Group (CICG), Li Junxiao, deputy secretary of the Hengqin Working Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangdong Provincial Committee , Su Kun and Wu Zijian, deputy directors of the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, Liu Yiliang, deputy to the National People’s Congress of the Macao SAR and vice chairman of the National Federation of Chinese Returned from Overseas, as well as JC Déka James, Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Benin in China, and Gomun Kouya Bertin, Commercial Advisor at the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in China. Also present were Zhao Lijun, director of the Europe-Africa Center (CEA) of the CICG, Wang Qiu, director of the Audio Literature Commission of the Federation of China Radio and Television Associations, Sun Lin, level consultant 2 in Department III of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Huijie, department head of the Department of Cultural Communication of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR.

In his speech, Liu Dawei affirmed that, as part of the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, the CHINA TODAY Macao Salon, launched by the CEA of CICG, will constitute a new essential platform to strengthen the international communication activities and cultural exchanges in collaboration with local communities. He expressed the hope that this meeting space will make it possible to mobilize the resources of various actors, adopt a global perspective, take advantage of regional assets and promote the specificities of the CEA as a multilingual and multimedia platform. He said these efforts will help raise awareness of Macao, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and China as a whole on the international stage.

For Su Kun, the inauguration of the CHINA TODAY Macao Salon represents a significant step in exchanges and collaboration between the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the rest of the world. In his speech, he stressed that this fair will play a central role as a link, strengthening the ties of cooperation and exchange between the Macao SAR, the Chinese mainland and the international community. This initiative aims to breathe new life into the sustainable development of Macau. He also highlighted the strategic advantages offered by the location of the Zone to actively promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and support the objectives of the national development plan.

According to Liu Yiliang, 25 years after returning to the motherland, Macao has recorded remarkable socio-economic development under the aegis of the principles of “one country, two systems”, “Macanese administration of Macao” and a high degree of autonomy. Thanks to these unique frameworks, Macau has established itself as an essential crossroads between China and the rest of the world.
The inauguration of the CHINA TODAY Macao Salon, beyond a grandiose celebration of the 25th anniversary of this historic return, marks a key step to strengthen cooperation between Macao and Hengqin and promote cultural integration within the Greater Guangdong Bay -Hong Kong-Macau. Liu Yiliang expressed confidence that, supported by various social actors, this fair will become a crossroads of cultural exchanges in the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, thus injecting new dynamism into the joint development of Macao and Hengqin.

The CHINA TODAY Macao Salon, by leveraging the strategic assets of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and through the collaboration of national media, will have the mission of telling the story of the region. It will highlight the application of the “one country, two systems” principle as well as the quality development of Macao. The objective is to contribute to the prosperity, stability and sustainable development of the region.

In his speech, Wang Qiu emphasized that voice is the most essential and direct way to bring hearts together, convey truth, interpret classical works, share values and express care. She insisted on the symbolic significance of the organization, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, of the star-studded literary recital entitled “Hengqin and Macao, in full bloom”. She said the event will highlight the power of voice to tell the story of Macau, Hengqin and China to an international audience.

Yasmine Ramadan Khalil Ibrahim, representative of Egypt’s international youth, pointed out that Macao, with its long history, unique cultural heritage and open and inclusive spirit, plays a role as a bridge between China and the rest of the world. Its development journey not only illustrates the successful implementation of the principle of “one country, two systems”, but also reflects the strengthening of friendly relations between China and Egypt.
She expressed her hope that an increasing number of young Egyptians will travel to Macao and other parts of China to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture through study and exchanges. According to her, these interactions will help further strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

During the event, the Chinese version of the magazine China Todayone of the CEA periodicals, has officially unveiled the cover of its special issue dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland. On the occasion of this celebration, the editorial team aims to tell, through this special issue, the story of Macao relating to the successful practice of the principle known as “one country, two systems”, as well as the development of the Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

After the inauguration ceremony, the star-studded literary recital took place in the Great Hall of the Hengqin Culture and Arts Center. Renowned figures from the literary and artistic circles performed classic works, showcasing the richness and unique charm of Macau culture. Themed “Hengqin and Macao, in Full Bloom”, the event symbolizes Macao’s blossoming since its return to the motherland, celebrating 25 years of prosperity and development.
Organized under the supervision of the Civil and Administrative Affairs Offices of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone, the event was sponsored by the CICG CEA and coordinated by Hong Kong Macau Smart City in partnership with Beijing Jinzhong Cultural Communication.
