The Zhuhai Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (PHZM) recorded the entry and exit of more than 20,000 vehicles on Saturday, a daily record since the bridge opened in 2018.
The 55 km PHZM connects the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Macao SAR and Zhuhai City in Guangdong Province. It is the longest sea crossing by bridge and tunnel in the world.
According to the PHZM Border Inspection Station, 453,000 passengers and 93,000 vehicles crossed the Zhuhai Port Bridge from Tuesday to Saturday, the first five days of the National Day holiday week, up 34.33 percent respectively. and 56.38% over one year.
Vehicles bearing Hong Kong and Macao license plates exceeded 56,000, marking an annual increase of 73 percent.
Border inspection officials said more and more families from Hong Kong and Macao are driving to the mainland for tourism and consumption, especially during holidays.
According to official data, more than 20 million inbound and outbound passengers have traveled across the bridge’s Zhuhai Port so far in 2024, surpassing the total volume of the whole of last year.
