Deputies to the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) gathered in Beijing on Wednesday in a preparatory meeting to elect the presidium and set the agenda for the fourth session of the 14th NPC, which opens on Thursday.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, chaired the preparatory meeting.
All preparatory work for the annual session has been completed, Zhao said.
A 167-member presidium was elected, with Li Hongzhong as general secretary of the NPC session.
The preparatory meeting also adopted the agenda for the next session:
— Deliberate on the government activity report;
— Examine the draft master plan of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for national economic and social development;
— Examine the report on the execution of the economic and social development plan in 2025 and on the draft plan for 2026, as well as the draft economic and social development plan in 2026;
— Examine the report on the execution of the budget of central and local authorities for 2025 and on the draft budget of central and local authorities for 2026, as well as the draft budget of central and local authorities for 2026;
— Deliberate on the bill presented by the APN Standing Committee on the revision of the draft environmental code;
— Deliberate on the draft law presented by the NPC Standing Committee on the revision of the draft law on promoting ethnic unity and progress;
— Deliberate on the draft law presented by the NPC Standing Committee on the revision of the draft law on national development planning;
— Deliberate on the activity report of the APN Standing Committee;
— Deliberate on the activity report of the Supreme People’s Court;
— Deliberate on the activity report of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate;
— Deliberate on the report of the NPC Standing Committee on the legal review work and proposed treatment of certain laws and decisions.
The presidium of the session met shortly after the end of the preparatory meeting. Participants in the presidium meeting decided on the agenda of the NPC session, among other issues. The NPC session will be held from March 5 to 12 this year.
Before the preparatory meeting, the Council of the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the NPC Standing Committee met to prepare for the meeting.
The meetings of the Presidium and the Council of the President and Vice Presidents were chaired by Mr. Zhao.
