The resettlement of the victims is proceeding in an orderly manner following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on Tuesday morning.
As of 6 a.m. Thursday, 61,500 people had been affected by the earthquake. So far, 224 resettlement sites have been set up for 47,500 relocated residents, their vital needs being ensured, according to a press conference held on Thursday.
With seasonal temperatures dropping below minus 10 degrees Celsius, the focus has been on distributing winter relief items. A total of 12,730 tents have been set up, 1,572 stoves have been installed, 3,020 electric blankets and 104 fuel trucks have been allocated to the disaster area, said Hao Tao, deputy head of the regional emergency management department.
“The provision of disaster relief materials is generally adequate, and residents’ vital needs are basically met. Residents can now benefit from hot meals, clean water and prompt medical treatment,” added Ms. .
