In December 2020, the Pilot Development and Opening Zone of Tacheng (Xinjiang) was officially approved by the Council for State Affairs, thus becoming the ninth border pilot zone of this type in China and the only one in the five provinces and regions of the northwest of the country.
Based on the city of Tacheng and certain agricultural farms from the Xinjiang production and construction body, the pilot area explores a “three -dimensional” construction structure integrating border port, industrial parks and urban space. It focuses on the creation of a demonstration area for modern development of agriculture and breeding, innovation in manufacturing, and cultural and ecological tourism. In August 2025, the pilot area had 236 companies located, and had complete basic infrastructure (water, electricity, roads).
