The Party leading group of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) held a meeting on Friday to study the important speech delivered by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, at a meeting held on September 14 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NPC.
Zhao Leiji, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and secretary of its Party leading group, presided over the group meeting and delivered a speech.
Hailing the significance of Xi’s speech, the meeting participants called for efforts to earnestly study and implement the guiding principles of Xi’s important speech, improve political stance, theoretical understanding and ability to perform duties, and promote the high-quality development of the NPC’s work.
It was stressed at the meeting that people’s congresses should give full play to their important role in ensuring the implementation of the Constitution and laws, carrying out legislative work and supervision, and maintaining close ties with the people.
Participants also called for further efforts to improve the quality and level of the work of the people’s congresses, and to publicize the system of people’s congresses and people’s democracy throughout the process.
