The National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) began a Standing Committee session on Wednesday to study an important speech that Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered on September 20 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the CPPCC.
Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the opening meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Shi Taifeng, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee. Shi called on CPPCC members to regard studying and implementing Xi’s important speech as a major political task, and fully play the role of the CPPCC as a consultative body. specialist, in order to build consensus and bring together forces to advance Chinese modernization.
Li Shulei, also a member of the Politburo and head of the Information Department of the CPC Central Committee, was invited to the meeting and presented a report on the progress made on cultural fronts.
The senior political advisers also heard reports on a number of issues, including developing China’s beautiful traditional culture, building scientific and technological innovation centers, and improving overseas-related legal services.
During the two-and-a-half-day session, they will also hold thematic consultations with the CPPCC regional committees of Henan, Guangdong and Xinjiang via video conference.
