Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese President, met with Luong Cuong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and permanent member of the Secretariat of the CPV Central Committee, in Beijing on Friday .
Xi stressed that adherence to the Communist Party leadership and the socialist system is the most essential characteristic of China and Vietnam, and serves as the strongest political foundation for the development of bilateral relations.
Noting that China regards Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy, Xi said China is willing to work with Vietnam to take the lead in deepening high-level mutually beneficial cooperation, safeguarding the international fairness and justice, and to promote the cause of human progress, as well as to jointly foster a China-Vietnam community with a shared future which is of strategic importance.
Xi said as changes unprecedented in a century are occurring at an accelerating pace, China and Vietnam should adhere to a correct political direction, view China-Vietnam relations from a strategic perspective, and ensure mutual understanding. sustainable and properly oriented development of bilateral relations.
He urged China and Vietnam to strengthen their exchange of thoughts and ideas, make better use of institutionalized platforms, such as theoretical discussions and cadre training, and improve communication and exchange of experiences in matters of governance of the party and the State. The two countries should also further exploit the potential for cooperation and spare no effort to promote synergy of development strategies and interconnectivity, he added.
Regarding promoting people-to-people friendship, Xi called on both sides to take full advantage of the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations and the China-Vietnam People’s Exchange Year next year to better recognize the traditional friendship between the two countries and do more to improve their orientation of public opinion, with a view to consolidating public support for the long-term development of bilateral relations.
China’s efforts to further deepen reforms and promote high-level opening-up will not only open up broader prospects for its own development, but also bring new impetus and new opportunities to the development of Vietnam and other countries in the world, Mr. Xi continued.
