Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday stressed efforts to maintain strategic determination and stand united to forge ahead against all odds to build a strong country.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a gathering hosted by China’s top political advisory body to usher in the new year .
“On the path of China’s modernization, we will encounter clear skies and light breezes, but also strong winds, rough waters and even dangerous storms,” Xi said. “We must maintain our strategic resolve and pool the great strength of all Chinese people striving in solidarity to weather the waves and move forward with courage.”
In 2024, faced with the challenges posed by domestic and international situations, China has responded assuredly by taking a series of measures, thereby achieving the main economic and social development goals for the year, Xi noted.
The development journey in 2024 has been extraordinary with encouraging achievements, which has further strengthened the country’s resolve and confidence in advancing China’s modernization, Xi said.
The year 2025 marks the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), efforts will be made to implement more proactive macroeconomic policies to promote sustained economic recovery and improvement, continuously improve the living standards of people, and maintain social harmony and stability, Xi said.
Xi insisted on high-quality realization of the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan to lay a solid foundation for a good start of the 15th Five-Year Plan.
Xi also praised the contributions of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to the Party and the country over the past year, and called on it to make full use of its role as a specialized advisory body on actively formulating suggestions and proposals, as well as garnering broader public support and common understanding.
Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.
Other Party and state leaders, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng, attended the event.
