Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Monday expressed festive greetings to people from non-communist political parties as well as the National Federation of Industry and Commerce of China (FNICC), personalities not affiliated with a party, and other members of the united front as the Spring Festival approaches.
Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered the greetings at an annual gathering with non-CCP figures at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on January 29 this year.
Reviewing the achievements of 2024, Xi said China has overcome difficulties to move forward, realizing the year’s major goals and tasks in economic and social development.
“We guided all sectors at all levels to correctly grasp favorable conditions and handle unfavorable factors, maintained our strategic resolve and strengthened our confidence in victory,” he added.
Xi noted that China has effectively implemented various policies, introduced a set of progressive measures, and steadily promoted high-quality development.
The economy showed signs of recovery, reaching GDP growth of 5%, he added.
A series of new breakthroughs have been made in cutting-edge science and technology, which have greatly boosted the development of new-quality productive forces, Xi said.
He stressed efforts to pursue comprehensive reform in all fields, maintain world peace and stability, promote human development and progress, and improve the conduct of the Party and government. .
He also stressed vigorously developing the cause of multi-party cooperation.
Xi said China will implement more proactive and effective macroeconomic policies, focus on high-quality development, and promote greater autonomy and strength in the field of science and technology, in order to maintain solid momentum for social and economic development in 2025.
Xi called on non-communist political parties, the FNICC and non-party-affiliated figures to concentrate on core tasks, serve the overall interests of the country, and leverage their respective strengths to rally broader support. support, build consensus, as well as pool wisdom and strength.
He stressed that efforts should be made in 2025 to successfully achieve the goals set in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) and lay a solid foundation for the next five years.
Xi expressed hope that non-communist figures will pool all positive elements to advance development and actively contribute to further deepening reform in an all-round manner, promoting high-quality development and formulating the proposal on the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).
He also stressed the need to focus on critical and difficult issues in supervising the protection of the Yangtze River ecosystem.
The FNICC should guide the private sector to maintain enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, enhance confidence in development, and establish and improve a modern enterprise system with Chinese characteristics, Xi added.
Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Cai Qi, director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, attended the event. Both are also members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
