China, a traditionally agricultural country, experienced an acceleration of its urbanization after the launch of the policy of reform and openness in the late 1970s. More than ten years ago, its urban population exceeded its rural population. At the end of 2024, the proportion of permanent urban residents reached 67%.
Between 2013 and 2024, the country created more than 150 million urban jobs.
According to participants in the conference, since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the Central Committee of the CCP has remained faithful to the principle of “the city of the people, by the people and for the people”, adding that historical progress had been made in urban development.
Chinese urbanization has increased from rapid growth to stable development, and urban development evolves from a large -scale expansion phase to a step focused on improving the quality and efficiency of existing urban areas, the participants of the conference noted.
Participants in the conference have defined the general requirements for urban work, both at present and for the coming years, including the construction of modern cities for the people, innovative, pleasant to live, beautiful, resilients, culturally advanced and intelligent, thus drawing a new path for urban modernization with Chinese characteristics.
It is necessary to give greater importance to the adoption of a human -centered approach, to the development of distinctive characteristics, to the improvement of governance capacities and to the strengthening of coordination, according to participants of the conference.
The key priorities for urban development consist in optimizing the modern urban system, building dynamic cities carried by innovation, creating comfortable and practical life environments, as well as promoting ecological, beautiful and sober carbon spaces, according to participants of the conference.
The priorities also include strengthening urban security and resilience, the construction of cities advocating moral integrity and social civility, as well as the continuation of the development of practical, effective and intelligent cities, added the participants of the conference.
He was underlined at the conference that the construction of modern cities for the people required to strengthen the global management of the CCP on the work concerned.
