Chinese President Xi Jinping left the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for Beijing on Thursday after attending celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the autonomous region.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, received a warm farewell from people of all ethnic groups who lined the streets waving red flags in the regional capital Urumqi and danced happily at Urumqi Tianshan International Airport.
Under Xi’s instructions, a central delegation led by Wang Huning will visit various places in Xinjiang from Thursday to Sunday, and convey greetings to residents of all ethnicities as well as people from all walks of life.
Mr. Xi’s entourage, including senior official Cai Qi, returned on the same flight.
