Chinese President Xi Jinping met with outgoing Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Ho Iat Seng on Wednesday, expressing the central authorities’ full appreciation for the work of Ho and the Macao government. fifth term of the Macau SAR.

Xi said Ho had faced challenges pragmatically and productively during his five-year tenure as chief executive. “It is not an easy task, but you have achieved important results,” he noted.

Xi arrived in Macao earlier today for celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and the inauguration ceremony of the sixth-term government of the Macao SAR.

He praised Mr. Ho for leading Macao in comprehensively and accurately implementing the “one country, two systems” policy with unwavering determination, resolutely safeguarding national sovereignty, security and interests of development, overcoming the serious challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its efforts to diversify the economy appropriately.

He expressed hope that Mr. Ho would actively support the incoming Chief Executive and his team and continue to contribute to the advancement of the “one country, two systems” cause and the development of Macao and the country in its whole.

Ho expressed deep gratitude for the trust and support of President Xi and the central government, saying that with the strong support of the central authorities, the Macao SAR government has raised the Macao SAR to a new level. level on all fronts.
