Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Wednesday extended holiday greetings to members of non-communist political parties as well as the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (FNICC), non-party-affiliated figures, and other members of the united front ahead of the Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year.
Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered the greetings during an annual gathering with non-CPC figures at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Addressing the gathering, Xi noted that 2025 has been an extraordinary year. Facing profound and complex changes at both the domestic and international levels, the CPC Central Committee has united and led the entire Party and all Chinese people to overcome difficulties and work hard to achieve major goals and accomplish key tasks in economic and social development in the year, Xi said.
These hard-won results are the result of the strong leadership of the Party and the joint efforts of all Chinese people, including members of democratic parties and groups, the FNICC and non-party figures, Xi added.
Noting that the year 2026 marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Xi urged democratic parties and groups, the FNICC and non-party-affiliated figures to actively fulfill their duties and responsibilities, contributing to the implementation of the decisions and provisions of the CPC Central Committee.
He called on them to strengthen political direction, forge unity, contribute to the country’s development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, and strengthen their own development so as to present themselves in a new guise as political parties and forces participating in state governance within the framework of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Xi also urged them to rigorously improve their conduct and enforce discipline, aiming to consolidate a healthy political landscape.
Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Cai Qi, head of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang also attended the gathering. Wang Huning, Cai Qi and Ding Xuexiang are also members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
