Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the country’s strategic missile troops to strengthen their deterrence and combat capabilities and resolutely carry out the tasks assigned by the Party and the people.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks Thursday while inspecting a brigade of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Ballistic Forces.
Xi on Thursday morning visited the brigade, a strategic missile force with a history dating back more than 50 years. Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the brigade has strengthened its training under actual combat conditions and completed a series of major tasks.
Xi then visited the brigade’s training ground, where he learned about the tactical and technical performance of the brigade’s newly introduced weapons and equipment, and reviewed its weapons training.
He encouraged the officers and soldiers of the brigade to master and make best use of the weapons they have in their hands, and to live up to the trust of the Party and the people.
Later, Xi was briefed on the brigade’s work and delivered a speech. He stressed the importance of maintaining the Party’s absolute leadership over the armed forces and strengthening Party building at the grassroots level.
Xi demanded efforts to intensify troop training, strengthen combat readiness in all fields and improve combat capabilities, so as to effectively safeguard national strategic security and key interests.
He also stressed the need to strengthen targeted training with new equipment, new skills and new combat methods, improve support and systematically strengthen combat capabilities.
