Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday hailed the “glorious example” of China-Africa relations, as China rolled out the red carpet for African leaders attending a major summit meant to further strengthen ties.
Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, hosted a welcome banquet at the Great Hall of the People for guests who arrived in Beijing from across Africa to attend the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the largest diplomatic event hosted by China in years.
At the banquet, Xi said he had visited Africa 10 times.
The China-Africa community with a shared future is a glorious example for building a community with a shared future for mankind, he said.
The China-Africa community with a shared future is rooted in the traditional friendship between the two sides, Xi said, adding that the friendship is perpetuated and consolidated over time, no matter how the international situation changes.
“We have worked together to build roads, railways, schools, hospitals, industrial parks and special economic zones. These projects have changed the lives and destinies of many people,” Xi said, noting that the China-Africa community with a shared future is distinguished by win-win cooperation.
Noting that the China-Africa community with a shared future is growing stronger with time, Xi stressed that the two sides have worked in close coordination on major regional and international issues, making a stronger voice of the Global South.
He said he believes that as long as the more than 2.8 billion Chinese and African people work in unity, “we will make brilliant achievements on the path of modernization, guide the vigorous development of modernization in the Global South, and make greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind.”
