A ceremony was held on Monday in memory of the victims of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region last week.
At 9:30 a.m., several hundred people, including government officials, rescue workers and local residents, attended the ceremony in the town of Chamco, the worst-hit area. They took off their hats and observed three minutes of silence in memory of the deceased.
On January 7, a powerful earthquake struck Dingri, home to the northern base camp of the world’s highest peak, Mount Qomolangma, killing 126 people.
