Chinese Premier Li Qiang met in Beijing on Wednesday with a delegation from Japan’s ruling coalition led by Hiroshi Moriyama, general secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party, and Makoto Nishida, general secretary of the Komeito Party.
Noting that China-Japan relations are at a crucial stage of improvement and development, Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said the resumption of the mechanism exchange between the parties in power after almost seven years was an important step in the implementation of the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries.
It is hoped that China and Japan will continue to work together to enhance mutual trust, deepen cooperation, manage differences, and promote healthy and stable development of bilateral relations that will bring more benefits to the two peoples, said Ms. .Li.
He noted that the ruling parties of the two countries should focus on safeguarding the long-term fundamental interests of the two countries, and adopt a responsible attitude towards people and history.
Further efforts should be made to promote cooperation and common development, further explore new growth points of economic cooperation in areas such as scientific and technological innovation, digital economy and green development, intensify exchanges people-to-people and subnational levels, as well as cement a social basis for bilateral relations, Li said.
The Japanese side expressed its willingness to improve Japan-China relations and its commitment to adhere to the principles set out in the four political documents, including the Japan-China Joint Declaration.
The delegation noted that the exchange mechanism between the ruling parties of the two countries is of great importance and Japan wants to realize exchanges at all levels in 2025.
The Japanese side added that it hopes to strengthen exchanges and understanding between the younger generations of the two countries.
