Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday that China was ready to work with the International Olympic Committee (CIO) to continue to promote the development of the Olympic movement.
Xi made these remarks during his meeting with CIO President Thomas Bach, in Harbin, capital of the province of Heilongjiang (northeast of China). Mr. Bach came to attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Winter Asian Games.
Xi stressed that China had successfully hosted many major sporting events in recent years, testifying to the close collaboration between China and the IOC.
He said that China vigorously developed its sports sector and advanced to the objectives of building sporting power and healthy China, thus continuously contributing to the development of international sport.
Mr. Bach congratulated China for his defense and his practice of the concepts of unity, cooperation, equality and respect, for his maintenance of multilateralism, for his opposition to the politicization of sport and for his support Participation of developing countries in international sport.
He said he was convinced that China would continue to make greater achievements and contribute more to peace, development and progress in the world.
High Chinese leaders, including Cai Qi, attended this meeting.
