China will push for the integration of digital technologies into the development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) over the next three to five years, state regulators said.

Technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence can facilitate the sharing of TCM data and help create a “digital and intelligent TCM,” the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (NATCM) said.

The ANMTC and the National Data Administration recently issued a guideline encouraging TCM-based medical institutions to digitize their services, develop digital medical record systems, and establish smart TCM pharmacies.

Institutions are encouraged to share digital records and acknowledge test results conducted by others, the guideline said.

In addition, the document commits to supporting the creation of databases for ancient books, cultural relics and knowledge related to TCM.
