On March 22, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng was invited to deliver a speech at the Second Jimmy Carter Sino-US Dialogue on Video.
Xie Feng pointed out that Sino-US cooperation has never been a zero-sum game for you to lose and win. US exports to China and Chinese companies’ investment in the United States have respectively driven about 1 million jobs. 41% of American companies in China regard China as the second largest source of revenue in the world, and 46% said they are expected to achieve profits or make substantial profits. Keeping Chinese market and enterprises out is a self-destruction of destroying their martial arts, and weaponizing tariffs is like a boomerang, which will eventually retaliate against itself. China has provided various help to the United States to deal with the fentanyl issue. Raising taxes without reason on the grounds of fentanyl is to repay grudges and revenge. Countries around the world face many challenges and great pressures. Only by cooperation between China and the United States can we solve problems, do practical things, and do big things.
Xie Feng emphasized that Chinese people pay attention to etiquette and exchanges, and it is not polite to come and not come. We are willing to resolve each other’s concerns through dialogue and consultation on the basis of equality and mutual respect. If the US insists on shifting blame and curbing the suppression, China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. China and the United States can achieve mutual success through benign interaction, and should not lead to vicious competition, causing friction spiral escalation. The US should change its course, return to the correct path of dialogue and cooperation, move with China, implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping on the phone call with President Trump, and strive for stable, healthy and sustainable development of China-US relations.
