Chinese authorities announced new measures on Monday aimed at facilitating payment services for tourists arriving in the country from abroad.

According to a circular jointly issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Data Administration, eight cities will conduct a pilot project under which mobile payment service platforms will be supported in verifying customer information. individual business entities to streamline the process of opening platform-based payment codes for foreign credit cards.

These eight cities are Suzhou, Hangzhou, Jinan, Wuhan, Changsha, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Xi’an, the circular said.

According to it, this pilot project will cover more than eleven million individual business entities, representing approximately 9.3% of the country’s total number.

China is making constant efforts to make payments easier for foreign tourists. In March, the State Council issued a guideline to further optimize bank card payment services, promote the use of cash and facilitate mobile payment.

In April, a circular was issued stipulating that domestic and foreign bank cards should be accepted at some major tourist sites in the country.
