China’s box office raked in more than 2 billion yuan (about $285 million) during the 2024 National Day holiday, according to film data platform Maoyan.
Three Chinese productions topped the box office, namely “The Volunteers: The Battle of Life and Death,” “Bureau 749” and “Tiger Wolf Rabbit.”
Directed by Chen Kaige, “The Volunteers: The Battle of Life and Death” is the second part of “The Volunteers” trilogy. Since its theatrical release on September 30, the film has grossed 781 million yuan, or 38.1% of the box office revenue during the National Day holiday.
The second and third highest-grossing films are “Bureau 749,” a sci-fi by Lu Chuan, and “Tiger Wolf Rabbit,” a crime drama, which generated 353 million yuan and 348 million yuan respectively, according to a report established this Monday afternoon.
The National Day holiday, which runs from October 1 to 7, is traditionally one of the most lucrative periods in China for film releases.
