Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Beijing on Thursday, calling on both sides to seize the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties to promote and enrich the China-Malaysia community with a shared future.

Noting that China and Malaysia are good neighbors, good friends and good partners, Xi said the two countries have maintained close interactions and exchanges at all levels, and advanced mutually beneficial cooperation of high quality on all fronts since Mr. Anwar’s first visit to China in March last year, after taking office as Prime Minister, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples.

Both China and Malaysia are at crucial stages of national development and rejuvenation, Xi said.

“The two sides should take advantage of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the China-Malaysia Friendship Year to work together to build a more concrete China-Malaysia community with a shared future, to help each other achieve their development goals, and make new and greater contributions to the region’s prosperity and stability,” Xi said.

He urged the two sides to develop a high-level strategic partnership, continue to maintain close high-level exchanges, deepen exchanges of governance experiences, enhance political mutual trust, and firmly support each other. on issues related to fundamental interests and major concerns. China supports Malaysia in maintaining its strategic independence and choosing a development path suited to its national conditions, he noted.

Xi called on the two sides to synergize their development strategies, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all respects, continue to promote high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, jointly implement flagship projects such as the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” project, to bring out new growth poles such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence and clean energies, as well as to explore the implementation put in place exchange mechanisms and cooperation for poverty reduction.

China welcomes the Malaysian side to use the China International Import Expo as a platform to bring more of Malaysia’s typical and quality products to China, Xi said, adding that China is also Willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Malaysia in the fields of higher education, culture, tourism, youth and between local governments, as well as strengthen ties between the two peoples.

Xi said that as important representatives of developing countries and emerging economies in Asia, China and Malaysia should strengthen communication and cooperation on regional and international issues, firmly support each other, jointly oppose protectionism, promote the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, advocate a fair and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization benefiting all, advance the reform and improvement of the global governance system, and defend the international equity and justice, as well as the common interests of developing countries.

China supports Malaysia in holding the rotating presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) next year and supports ASEAN’s centrality and strategic independence, so as to maintain the mainstream of regional cooperation in development, Xi added.

Praising that the important concepts and initiatives put forward by President Xi are an embodiment of wisdom and responsibility for the progress of human civilization and people’s benefits and represent the common will of the Global South, Anwar said. expressed appreciation and support for Xi’s vision and initiatives. He said the Malaysian government was committed to strengthening cooperation with China in areas such as information technology, digital economy and energy.

Malaysia and China share like-minded and similar positions on multiple major regional and international issues, Anwar said, adding that Malaysia sticks to its strategic independence and is ready to maintain multilateral coordination. close with China to help safeguard peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region.
