South Africa sent its first cargo of lawyers for the season to China, confirmed the Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen.
In a statement published on Tuesday, Steenhuisen expressed his satisfaction with the active research of international markets by the South African lawyer, “which is highlighted by the first cargo of the season which reached Shanghai, China”.
Steenhuisen said that lawyer expedition would contribute to economic growth and job creation throughout the sector.
“This early delivery to China testifies to the hard work, innovation and strategic provident of our lawyer,” he said.
The Minister also underlined the strategic advantages of South African producers, in particular a shorter shipping period to China compared to major competitors such as Peru.
“This logistical advantage (…) allows South African lawyers to access the Chinese market for a period when the offer is lower,” he said.
In August 2023, South Africa and China concluded a phytosanitary agreement which allowed the first arrival of 21 tonnes of South African lawyers in Shanghai in October 2024, making South Africa the third African nation to enter the Chinese market, according to the traces of Kenya, according to Mr. Steenhuisen.
