The 7th International Dance Festival of the Xinjiang opened Sunday in Urumqi, capital of the Ouïgou autonomous region of Xinjiang (northwest of China). It will take place over 17 days until August 5, presenting 52 shows.
The event brings together 24 artistic troops, including groups from eight countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadjikistan, Ouzbékistan, Turkmenistan, United States, Italy and Cambodia), as well as 16 Chinese national teams. The shows include plays, operas, ballets and modern dances.
Urumqi is the main site, with secondary sites in Ili, Hotan, Aksu, Karamay, Hami and Alaer.
Among the activities offered in parallel are the 2025 Xinjiang Silk Road Street Dance Show, folk village dance shows, an international dance carnival and a traditional opera week.
Organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the information office of the State Council and the Xinjiang regional government, the festival was created in 2008. It attracted 138 artistic groups of more than 70 countries and regions during its six previous editions and constitutes a key platform for cultural exchanges within the framework of the “belt and road” initiative.
