The China data sector recorded significant growth during the period of the 14th five-year plan (2021-2025), with significant progress in terms of market size and digital infrastructure, according to official data published Thursday.
The sector size reached 5,860 billion yuan (approximately 821.45 billion dollars) at the end of 2024, up 117% compared to the end of 2020, said Liu Liehong, chief of the national data administration on Thursday at a press conference.
He noted that the number of companies related to data in China had exceeded 400,000 at the end of 2024, and that the sector should maintain strong growth for years to come.
In addition, the digital infrastructure of China has made significant progress, placing itself in the world level in terms of scale and technological advance.
According to Mr. Liu, at the end of June 2025, the country had built 4.55 million basic 5G stations, and the number of high speed subscribers to a gigabit reached 226 million.
China’s computer power is currently in the second world rank, providing solid support for economic and social development, added Mr. Liu.
