Chinese President Xi Jinping met Viatcheslav Volodine, president of the Duma of Russian State (lower room of the Russian Parliament), Tuesday in Beijing.
According to Mr. Xi, Sino-Russian relations are the relations between large most stable, most mature and most important countries on the strategic level in the world of today, unstable and changing.
The constant promotion of high-level development of Sino-Russian relations is in the fundamental interest of the two peoples and also constitutes a source of stability for world peace, he added.
“Last May, I made a state visit to Russia and attended the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union,” said Xi, noting that, next week, China would organize a great event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese and anti -fascist world war.
China and the Soviet Union, which were respectively the main theaters of operations in Asia and Europe during the Second World War, made huge national sacrifices to fight Japanese militarism and the German fascist aggression, making important contributions to the victory of the Second World War, underlined Mr. XI.
It is important for both parties to perpetuate traditional friendship, to deepen mutual strategic confidence, to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in all areas and to jointly defend their security and development interests, noted Mr. XI.
He called on the two parties to promote solidarity with other countries of the Global South, to stick to real multilateralism and to work for a fairer and more equitable international order.
XI stressed that cooperation between legislative bodies was an essential component of the global coordination strategic partnership between China and Russia for a new era.
It should be hoped that the two parties actively share their experience in governance and legislation in order to offer a more solid legislative guarantee for strategic coordination and global cooperation between China and Russia in the new circumstances, he noted.
Mr. Volodine transmitted to President Xi Jinping the warm greetings and the best wishes of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
He said that, under the strategic orientation of the presidents of the two countries, relations between Russia and China had experienced in -depth development and led to fruitful results.
The Russian state Duma remains committed to acting in accordance with the significant consensus reached by the two presidents, to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies and to work ardently for more fruitful bilateral relations, he noted.
Mr. Volodine noted that eight decades ago, peoples in the Soviet Union and China had made important contributions to victory against fascism. Russia wishes to join China to celebrate this hardened victory, honor the heroes who fell in battle and work for a better future, he added.
