Inaugurated on May 23, 2013, the Wang Meng library is located in the village of Bayandai, in the Kazakhe autonomous prefecture of the ouïgou autonomous region of Xinjiang. Since its opening, the establishment has been accessible for free to the public. It has become not only a “cultural attic” where farmers, breeders and local schoolchildren can learn, but it also attracts visitors and researchers from all over Xinjiang and the rest of the country.
The Wang Meng library actively carries out various actions to promote reading, including reading salons, books for sharing books, poetry readings and calligraphy and painting exhibitions. Since last year, she has organized more than a hundred events.
(Wang Meng is a contemporary Chinese writer.)
