The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, attended a gala on Wednesday evening marking the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Ouïgoure autonomous region of Xinjiang in Urumqi, capital of the region.
Mr. XI, also secretary general of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and president of the Central Military Commission, joined the people of all ethnic groups in the Xinjiang to attend the Gala entitled “Magnificent Xinjiang”.
The gala was structured in three parts. The first part presented the dynamic efforts made in the socialist construction of the Xinjiang. The second part highlighted the vitality brought by the reform and the opening to the region, while the last part illustrated the beautiful vision of people of all ethnic groups of the Xinjiang working together to realize their dreams in the new era.
High officials, including Wang Huning and Cai Qi, also attended the Gala.
Mr. XI, accompanied by a central delegation, arrived in Urumqi on Tuesday to attend the activities of birthday celebrations.
