Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday met with Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, who is in Beijing to attend the Global Women’s Summit.
Noting that Dominica is a close friend and partner of China in the Caribbean, Xi said China is willing to work with Dominica to raise bilateral relations to a higher level and bring more benefits to the two peoples.
China and Dominica should consolidate mutual political trust, strengthen exchanges of governance experiences and improve interactions between governments, legislatures and political parties, Xi said.
China stands ready to continue supporting Dominica in strengthening its capabilities in combating climate change and disaster prevention and reduction, he said.
China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Dominica in the fields of infrastructure, clean energy, healthcare, agriculture and women’s empowerment, and promote people-to-people cultural, educational and tourism exchanges, among others, he added.
Xi called for strengthening multilateral coordination and jointly implementing the four global initiatives to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
He also called for the implementation of the consensus reached at the World Women’s Summit and the intensification of cooperation in strengthening women’s capacities.
Dominica firmly supports the one-China principle and is ready to deepen cooperation with China in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, green economy, new energy, health care and combating climate change, Burton said.
Calling China an important force for global peace and stability, Burton said Dominica is willing to work closely with China to oppose unilateralism and hegemonism and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
Wang Yi attended the meeting.
