Chinese lawmakers gathered Sunday to deliberate on reports during an ongoing session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), the top legislature.
Zhao Leji, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, attended the plenary meeting of the session.
The meeting participants listened to a report on the inspection of the implementation of the Food Safety Law. The report presents the general situation with regard to the implementation of the law, as well as various challenges and problems. It proposes measures to achieve more comprehensive and effective enforcement, including the rapid launch of a comprehensive review of the law.
Lawmakers reviewed a report on the inspection of the implementation of the Forestry Law highlighting notable progress in forest resource conservation and ecological restoration in China. The report also identifies the main challenges and problems related to the implementation of the law and makes recommendations aimed at strengthening its comprehensive and effective implementation, including by improving the quantity and quality of forest resources.
Participants also listened to a report on financial work, covering key findings and developments since November 2024, as well as economic and financial challenges. The report emphasizes establishing a moderately loose monetary policy and tightening and improving financial regulation in the future, as well as providing quality financial services.
Participants examined three reports regarding the management of public assets in 2024.
Lawmakers listened to a report on the execution of criminal sentences, detailing the main efforts and achievements of judicial and law enforcement institutions since 2021. The report also addresses current challenges related to the execution of criminal sentences and proposes measures to improve its efficiency and integrity.
Lawmakers also considered a report from the president of the Supreme People’s Court on maritime trials in people’s courts, as well as a report from the prosecutor general of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate on supervision of the execution of criminal sentences by people’s procuratorates.
On the same day, Zhao also chaired a meeting of the Council of the President and Vice-Chairmen of the NPC Standing Committee, during which senior lawmakers listened to reports on the deliberation of various bills.
