Chinese President Xi Jinping met with representatives of model units and exemplary figures in the field of grassroots sports and competitive sports on Sunday, ahead of the opening of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended his congratulations to these figures, encouraging them to push their limits, strive to reach new heights and make new contributions to build China into a sports powerhouse.
Xi was greeted with warm applause upon his arrival at the Baiyun International Convention Center in Guangzhou. Xi waved to the crowd, interacted warmly with representatives, and took group photos with them.
Senior officials at the event included Li Hongzhong, Zhang Youxia, Huang Kunming, Shen Yiqin and Wang Dongfeng.
