President Xi Jinping called for comprehensively deepening reform and opening-up for high-quality development, and advancing the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through sustained efforts.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during his inspection tour of Guangdong Province on Friday and Saturday. He hailed this southern province as a precursor, a pioneer and a pilot area of reform and opening-up.
While visiting the Ye Jianying Memorial Park in Meizhou City on Friday afternoon, Xi stressed that all of China’s great achievements today are built on the foundations laid by Mao Zedong and other revolutionaries of the older generation, calling for efforts to educate and guide cadres and the public, especially young people, to carry forward revolutionary traditions.
In Meizhou, Xi also visited a pomelo growing base where he was briefed on Guangdong’s efforts to strengthen support for former revolutionary bases and advance overall rural revitalization, among others.
He stressed that the development of specialized rural industries is fundamental to promoting comprehensive rural revitalization, calling for greater efforts to increase farmers’ income.
On Saturday morning, Xi inspected the exhibition showcasing the province’s achievements in integrated development of technological and industrial innovation in the provincial capital, Guangzhou. After that, Xi listened to a work report from the Guangdong provincial Party committee and the provincial government.
Xi noted that studying, disseminating and implementing the guiding principles of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee is a major political task for the entire Party and the entire country now and in the coming period.
Guangdong, as an economic power and a developed region, should lead by example and play a major role in shaping the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) of national economic and social development, Xi said.
He stressed that for Guangdong to create new advantages and achieve new breakthroughs, it is necessary to vigorously promote the spirit of reform and opening-up and the spirit of special economic zones, and promote high-quality development through comprehensive deepening of reform and opening-up.
Xi also urged the province to focus on developing new-quality productive forces, strengthen the deep integration of technological and industrial innovation, and build a modernized and internationally competitive industrial system.
The development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area represents a huge responsibility for Guangdong, but also provides a rare development opportunity for the province, Xi noted.
He urged deepening cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and supporting Hong Kong and Macao to better integrate and contribute to the country’s overall development.
Xi stressed that it is imperative to strengthen the Party leadership and promote the comprehensive implementation of strict discipline within the Party. He called for coordinated efforts to ensure that cadres do not dare, cannot and do not want to indulge in corruption, and to create a healthy development environment through clean and honest governance.
