At a leadership meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC), participants stressed the need to resolutely implement the Party central leadership’s Eight Recommendations on Improving Conduct.
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered an important speech while presiding over the criticism and self-criticism meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, which was held on Thursday and Friday.
Politburo members carried out criticism and self-criticism at the meeting, emphasizing resolutely implementing the Eight Recommendations of the Party central leadership to improve conduct and making constant and sustained efforts in this regard.
Their remarks covered key issues, including setting an example in strengthening political loyalty, strengthening the Party spirit, respecting the people, the Party, law and discipline, and actively shouldering responsibilities in the Party’s work and self-governance.
Xi commented on each speech, stressing that the meeting was fruitful and helped strengthen the cohesion and capabilities of the Politburo.
He said that since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Party has made notable progress in rectifying the Four Vices, namely formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and luxury. He also said that this year, a Party-wide study and education campaign rolled out to implement the Party central leadership’s Eight Recommendations on Improving Conduct had yielded tangible results.
Xi urged Politburo members to play an exemplary role for the entire Party in strengthening Party consciousness and improving Party conduct.
Leading cadres should be staunch Marxists, devote themselves to the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and achieve results commensurate with the times, Xi called.
He asked senior executives to stay in touch with people at the grassroots level, pay attention to divergent voices and set an example in tackling unnecessary red tape.
They should act with a sense of responsibility and have the courage to take on difficult tasks and shoulder heavy responsibilities in their duties, Xi said.
Leading cadres, especially high-ranking ones, should exercise self-discipline, remain steadfast in implementing the Eight Recommendations of the Party central leadership on improving conduct, and act voluntarily in accordance with rules and regulations, he stressed.
