A Chinese mainland spokeswoman warned Wednesday that the more extreme movements seeking “Taiwan independence” become, the tighter the anti-secession stranglehold will become.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks in response to a media query regarding the recent addition of two individuals to the list of die-hard secessionists supporting “Taiwan independence.”
“Taiwan is part of China,” Zhu reiterated, noting that those seeking “Taiwan independence” and undermining cross-Strait relations would be punished with all necessary measures and held accountable for life in accordance with the law.
The 17 strategies implemented by Lai Ching-te, leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, and designed to counter the so-called threats from the mainland, go completely against the prevailing public opinion in Taiwan, which advocates peace, development, exchanges and cooperation, according to the spokesperson.
The DPP authorities’ recent actions display sinister intentions and aim to further create a climate of “green terror” and seek “Taiwan independence,” Zhu said, adding that these despicable actions are doomed to be resisted and fail.
In response to another question regarding Lai Ching-te’s defamation of the mainland, the spokesperson pointed out that attacking and defaming the mainland, as well as manipulating a cross-Strait confrontation, was a trick commonly used by the DPP ahead of any election on the island to seek its own political gain.
Such malicious intentions cannot deceive the people of Taiwan and will inevitably be looked down upon by them, she added.
