Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and president of China, met with Saleumxay Kommasith, special envoy of Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and president of Laos, in Beijing on Tuesday.
Xi pointed out that the CPC and the PRPL sending special envoys to each other to brief each other on major political issues demonstrates the deep traditional friendship and high-level mutual political trust between the two sides.
Noting that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Year of China-Laos Friendship, Xi said that recently he and Thongloun Sisoulith reached consensus, through an exchange of letters, on deepening the construction of a China-Laos community with a shared future.
Xi said he is confident that under the leadership of the PRPL Central Committee headed by General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith, the Lao Party, state and people will surely overcome all difficulties, carry out all goals and tasks, resolutely follow the socialist path and realize the Party’s century-old goal.
He stressed that at this new historic juncture, China and Laos should follow a policy of long-term stability, forward-looking vision, good neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation, as well as the spirit of good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners.
The two sides should take a strategic perspective on the future and destiny of socialism to maintain close coordination and cooperation, deepen strategic alignment, expand practical cooperation, jointly address common challenges, and advance the construction of a China-Laos community with a shared future toward high standards, quality and levels, he added.
Saleumxay Kommasith, member of the Political Bureau of the PRPL Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister of Laos, delivered a letter from Thongloun Sisoulith to Xi and briefed him on the situation regarding the 12th National Congress of the PRPL.
He said China has maintained a safe and stable political and social environment at home for a long time and achieved a miracle of rapid and sustained economic growth, while its role and influence in the international arena have continued to expand.
Laos firmly supports the major global initiatives proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping and is willing to deepen comprehensive and practical cooperation with China to continue to achieve new results in building a community with a shared future between Laos and China, he added.
